Counseling Intern | Supervised by Dan Stephens
“I didn’t start this journey as a counselor. I started as a client.”
You are looking for safety, clarity, and a way forward. I understand that search because I have lived it.
As a counselor, I work with individuals, couples, and families who feel stuck in the chaos of life. Whether you are battling addiction, navigating family conflict, or feeling the weight of anxiety, you do not have to walk through it alone. My goal is to help you find stability today so you can build a stronger tomorrow.
My Story: The Wounded Healer
I know what it’s like to sit in the client’s chair.
I was adopted from Guam at a young age. That transition brought significant trauma and confusion. My parents, seeking help, put me in therapy to help me cope with the massive changes in my life.
That decision changed everything.
Therapy became the place where I learned who I was. It was where I learned how to connect with others again. I had a counselor who walked with me through the “Winter” of my pain so I could reach the “Spring” of healing. Today, I am in this profession to pay that forward. I want to offer you the same hope and guidance that was offered to me.
How I Counsel: Hope & Practical Change
Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.
My approach is Solution-Focused and relationally warm. We often feel paralyzed because we think we have to fix everything at once. We don’t.
I believe in the power of the 1% shift. If we can improve your situation by just 1% every day, those small changes compound into massive transformation over time.
-
The Clinical Goal: We identify the behaviors and thoughts keeping you stuck.
-
The Theological Goal: We look at who God designed you to be before the pain took over.
I view therapy as a partnership. I am not here to “fix” you; I am here to walk into the chaos with you and help you find the way out.
Areas of Focus
While I love working with all demographics, I have a specific heart for:
-
Addiction & Recovery: Wrestling with “disordered loves” and finding true freedom .
-
Family & Couples: Restoring the family unit and healing broken attachments.
-
Identity & Anxiety: Moving from fear and confusion to confidence and peace.
-
Adoption & Trauma: Navigating the complexities of belonging and past wounds.
My Faith: From Hurt to Healing
My walk with God hasn’t been a straight line.
I grew up in a religious environment that eventually turned its back on my family during a crisis. For a long time, I pushed God away. I couldn’t understand why a loving God would allow me to experience such pain.
In high school, I was invited to a Young Life event. I went reluctantly, but for the first time, I heard the Gospel not as a list of rules, but as a message of comfort. I realized that while religious institutions are fallible, Christ is faithful.
This journey led me to Arizona Christian University, where I am completing my graduate work. It drives how I counsel today. I believe that secure attachment starts with God. Even when you feel most alone, you are held by the Creator who loves you.
Note: I am happy to integrate Scripture and prayer into our sessions at your request, but I meet every client exactly where they are, regardless of their spiritual background.
